It's a new day!

I have been not blogging lately as you have been able to see. I really want to have a really concise plan for what I want my voice to be, and what format I want to use. There are so many blogs to enjoy, and CitygirlLV should really include all the things that are interesting, loved and admired by moi. Bear with me while I gear up to give you a lot better blog, info, and fun pretty things to look at!

Barcelona Fast,Diet & Wardrobe Conumdrum

With my impending trip to Barcelona, I'm now completely rift with anxiety..there are two reasons for my feelings...
1. I do not have a wardrobe plan, and think that this has to do with my lack of laundry that has been done in the last two weeks and I simply cannot see what I have to work with.

2. My gym and eating schedule has not been up to par, and I probably do not fit into previously mentioned laundry that is sitting on bedroom floor anyway.

This leads me to do two things, obviously...go out to the mall and thrifting to buy new clothes, and maybe by doing that I will skip lunches therefore cutting calories by at least 500 a day. I'm kidding, I need to get that wardrobe hung up nice and clean, and I need to begin a Europe fast of sorts, cutting out excessive glasses of wine and beer, and the cheat meals that I allow myself have to be cut out in order to save up for yummy tapas, and glasses of Roja...

I need advice from one of my fav bloggers Liberty London Girl as how her California fast went to see what can be done about this...

Blog of the Week

In beginning to pack for Barcelona at the end of the month, I have been scouring for cute girls that are living in Spain blogging! I found this girl, and I'm now obsessed!! How cute is she!? There's this whole progression of her pregnancy, looking fantastic till the moment she gave birth! Congrats to her and go out and visit her site!

What I will wear today

Thank you Olsens Anonymous for being awesome and giving us the pics of them always! I don't care that it is supposed to be 80 something degrees today in Las Vegas, I'm wearing skinny jeans and heels for as long as I can bloody stand it before it gets to the point of only sun dresses and flip flops...image olsens anonymous...

Travel Outfit

I'm thinking this may be the perfect plane outfit, big black sunnies, neutral (big) handbag, black tights or leggings and white tank with scarf and vest or cardi...I will shop my closet and figure this one out...thanks to NR for a good simple idea...

New Shoes!!!

I have always been fascinated by travel wardrobe, I'm always scouring the internets for things to wear while actually traveling (the airport and plane), and also while traveling in general. I cannot wear a separate "vacation wardrobe" but take great pleasure out of conceptualizing a look for travel. I not only can't wait to pack, but to put fun outfits on!

Off to Europe! What to Wear!?

I'm thrilled to announce that I will be going to Europe in a very short time...I'm headed to Spain with my beau, and very thrilled about it! My first thoughts are what kinds of things will I wear!? The average high in May in Barcelona is 68 degrees, so I'm going to need plenty of great layering pieces that can work all day and into the evening, when it get's a little chillier! Shoes are really my only really horrible dilemma when thinking about packing for Europe. What is a great shoe that can walk well, and does not scream, "I'M ON VACATION AND NEED COMFORTABLE SHOES TO WALK AROUND ALL DAY!" I had a hilarious conversation with friends over cocktails about how Americans put their "Vacation Gear" together. I would like to be somewhat comfortable, but by saying that, I really just mean, there are not razor blades shooting up my legs because of the intense pain of shoes.

The wardrobe part will just be fun, and I will just bring my favorite pieces, and get to wear great scarfs, and fun things! Any Links or Ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Another thought...

I think I'm going to steal this outfit idea for today..Thank you Vanessa...xo

Blog of the Week

I admit it, I adore the Olsens. There is something so wrong about that, but I really just wish that I could rummage through their closets and pick out all the fab jewelry and knitwear they own (and a few pairs of shoes, let's be honest). I really couldn't care less about their personal lives, if they simply would snap a photo of what they were wearing that day, the paps could leave them alone, and let them date whom ever they like with no interference. The writer of this blog also has a few other cute ones, look to the right and click on Le Smoking, or one of the others, they are also fun!

A General Francophile Post: An American in Paris

It was lovely to see President and Mrs. Obama meeting the President and first Lady of France. I'm always thrilled to post anything about Miss Bruni, and she is looking as beautiful as ever. I can only imagine what they are eating for dinner. I count the days until I return to Paris again....

Spring Wardrobe

Each year I always go through the same fight with myself, what is the spring, aka, really flippin hot in April through October in the desert. How on earth does one look chic, simple, when it is over 100 degrees. I have lived in Las Vegas for 10 years and I still don't have it down. I can't really do the casual flip flops (I really hate them), denim bottom and tank top uniform that many ladies, who I'm afraid are having the same problem as me, they just don't know it.

Is this possible to look pulled together, without showing too much skin, and still having some sort of personal style, without falling into the "Bad Las Vegas Fashion" that I still shake my head at!

I know, I have serious GP issues, but this is a super cute pic of her kids and her living it up in LA, must be weird for them leaving London, to come to LA right?

Bad Las Vegas Fashion- March Madness

I feel like Cher in Clueless, but please people, what is it with the khaki cargo shorts. Today my BF and I went for a nice lunch and a walk. We live Downtown, so we soon found that we were in the midst of March Madness extravaganza. I decided to play a game of how many people can we count wearing Khaki cargo shorts while walking home. We counted 82 pairs. 82 pairs!!! Why do men think that they look stylish wearing this get up. You look like a complete wanker, and might as well be walking around in plaid pajama pants and a white tank top. Step away from the cargo shorts circa 1992 and put something else on. There are many varied outfits that one could throw on and be just as comfortable, with a hit of chic. I promise you if you have a ceremonial burning of this horrid trend that has never gone away, then your dates and contact with women will increase by 20% immediately.

General Francophile Posting

I'm thrilled to see the news that Audrey Tautou is doing the next installation of Chanel no. 5 advert. Nicole Kidman's commercial was lovely, but this should be perfect. (insert, beautiful French woman, Paris, and Chanel, is that heaven or what!?)

Finally!

This may be Citygirl's first gardening post, and I only wish that I could get myself to the nursery to plant a veg garden, but living in the desert, does have some drawbacks other than horribly dry skin, and always being thirsty. Nothing really grows here, which I'm sure it could be done, and there are people right now that have lovely gardens here, I just simply haven't attempted anything that elaborate. I can kill a common house plant in record time. I read Alice Waters' plea to the White House when Obama was elected, for a sustainable garden. These photos today of a breaking ground of a veg garden, is just the kind of thing that keeps me loving the new first family, even if there have been some interesting decisions made in the first 70 days or so. Bravo first family!! I can't wait to see the results!

Alexander McQueen, Zoolander, and possible genius of Will Farrell

I have a lot to say about this current "Ready To Wear" collection by the fantastic Alexander McQueen. I find it hilarious that this is the collection that he chose to show as ready to wear. How funny is that?? Second, I believe this collection was first shown on the Will Ferrell runway as the Derilique collection. I'm not sure if he is commenting on where we are, or where we will be very shortly.
I don't want this to be a negative review of the show at all, it was amazing, a beautiful show, and I would seriously wear each and every piece, even if it meant that I would look like a tart. The recycling, broken glass thing was quite amazing, and just like a good film, is making me have all sorts of other thoughts about life, and fashion, which is sort of what one should do after seeing such a show.
Bravo Lee, bravo.

Barbie+Colette=cool

I wasn't too keen on all this Barbie 50th anniversary business, until I saw these windows for Colette. I'm not sure why. I like Barbie, had many of them as a girl, she is a great girl etc. I just simply wasn't into the whole anniversary as this massive global ad campaign. Next they will be selling Barbie perfume, and cosmetics for women, and that would put me over the edge. However, this window display for Colette is super cool, and I only wish I was in Paris to see it.

Dolce in Milan

I don't know if I'm needing some opulence now in the midst of all the doom and gloom, but this collection looked so fantastic and fun, it's the first time in a long time, I have wanted to put on red lipstick and pull my hair back! This whole collection doesn't look exactly like this, but I love the print tucked into a really feminine look, somehow even though I wouldn't wear a t-shirt with anyone's face on it, this seems perfectly appropriate.

Missoni Heaven

I know I'm missing winter now. All I want to do is put on layers and layers of scarves and hats and jackets and head out for coffee with friends, but alas, it is now 75 degrees in Las Vegas and probably heading to the disastrous 100's soon enough..I think I'm going to look into traveling TO the cold for winter from now on. I'm still in my normal winter wear of skinny trousers and blouse, however would love all these dreamy colors and layers for winter image wwd.com

Just another post about how amazing Ms. Paltrow is, she always manages to look great, and even though I'm sure there are people who are criticizing her website, and other ventures, I was exceedingly entertained this week with her Paris tour, I can't wait to go spend some time at little tea shops that she recommends! P.S. this dress makes me want to run to the gym and stay there until I can fit into my skinny jeans...thanks a lot Tracy Anderson! haha

Running With Heels- and horrible interns

As much as I will probably watch future episodes of this show to see what Ms. Garcia is wearing due to her fabulous Latin style and grace that was so exemplified in her little podcast for Elle last year, I cannot handle these interns. I would think that they could come up with girls with more intellect that wanted to work for Marie Claire. Maybe there is tricky editing, and they are making these girls look incompetent when they are not, but I highly doubt it. I'm really not in the business of being nasty or mean spirited, I'm sure an internship at a great magazine is a coveted position, and I guess I should have gone straight from college to apply for an internship there, maybe I stood a chance!Time will tell... A General Francophile Post

Today in Paris a show was unveiled to celebrate the sailors influence of fashion over the years. I wish I was in Paris to see it today! Who doesn't want a Gaultier striped top?

Sunday night fun

Ms. Cruz's vintage white gown may have been one of the highlights of the evening, which was made even better when she won the statue for Vicky Christina Barcelona. This antique dress was so lovely. I'm sure some fashion police will give her some trouble for the fit of the bodice, but I think she looked lovely!! xo O wwd.com

Blog of the week

Normally I do this post on Tuesdays, but since this last week was fashion week, I didn't get to it, nor did I keep up with the insane amount of shows, parties, images, blog posts etc. I will be much better equiped to deal with all of it next time around, and I look forward to the challenge! I found this great site called Bits and Bobbins out of San Francisco that I love and hope you will too! I love her wardrobe remix posts!! xo O image etsy bits and bobbins shop...

Another Knitting post

So, I don't know how to knit. I have tried to teach myself with Knitting for dummies, etc. I think it is impossible, and need assistance from a proper knitter, and think I may have found one, Thank you DK. I have driven around for probably 4 years with white yarn and knitting needles in my trunk, just in case. Knitting is huge, and there was a big party last night to celebrate wool and the gang's opening in the US. I'm going to finally attempt knitting again, as Collete had a knitting party a while back, and I posted a guerrilla knitting post and I should really get on it, (just like my Rosetta stone French). image wool and the blog...xo O

Recession? I think not

What a collection! What a beautiful array of beautiful party dresses, I can't wait to see who they will turn up on. Clearly Georgia is rejecting the current trend of simple, and she went over the top with some of the looks. I adore it, check out the full collection on wwd.com xo O

Not so Magical....

So twice a year the labels that fill Macy's, Dillards, Neiman Marcus, and Bloomies make their way to the huge convention center and adjacent buildings for MAGIC. I attended this event once before and was pretty overwhelmed at the offerings. I didn't however think that there was many really great options for young designers who were just starting out, and it was very overtaken with huge labels, and brands who were doing big deals. I know, I know, there has to be a place for the masses. There are satellite shows like PROJECT which, are also huge, and don't have many great offerings I found when I went. Maybe one year they can have a truly small, independent designer show that has lots to offer of west coast and national designers who can't afford a hundred thousand dollars for a booth. None the less, this always brings all kinds of weird celebs in town for random after show parties etc. If you were a club goer as I'm not, this may be your week of sightings, and free horrible bedazzled tshirts from Ed Hardy or another takeoff from Von Dutch...I'm happy that I'm downtown and won't have to deal with any of this nonsense. Image Lasvegassun

Can't you see Angelina. Jolie in this dress?

Seriously, this collection was spectacular, and I'm thinking with her signature nude pump, she would wear this on a casual day...oh how nice to have a little Derek Lam to throw on for taking the kids to school....a girl can dream can't she?? image style.com

Earth Tones galore...with a little magenta

I'm so interested to see who styled this show? If I attempted any of these looks, i would most certainly look like Mary Poppins, or a bag lady. It is brilliant and not only highlights the clothes but makes these colors even more edgy and vibrant than they would be without the styling! Bravo Marc! xo O images wwd.com

Blackout

I'm sensing some doom and gloom on the runway. Apart from the Marc Jacobs collection, and the beautiful Matthew Williamson show, it seems to be Black, and Grey and Black all over. I have no idea if it has something to do with the state of the economy and frankly, I don't care. I'm not one to write about these sorts of things, and am just interested in what the creative mind can do with the combination of trousers, dresses, blouses, and fabric etc. I will gladly take the black trend to the bank, and whip up some of the lovely ensembles that have been displayed this season. Is this the norm for any Fall/ Winter season?? More investigating needs to happen...this may be my weekend project. xo O images wwd.com

OMG - unexpected reaction to Matthew Williamson

Matthew Williamson clearly has a great following of ladies who adore his wears. I simply haven't been an admirer for absolutely no reason. This is one of the first shows that I have been blown away by. The simple hair with yummy prints, beautiful silhouettes, color and variety made me want to eat up several of these dresses! Wow! I think I'm so thrilled with it because the collection is so far away from what would be grabbed for in my closet, but I would love to have any of these!

Happy Tuesday

Yesterday I attempted to recreate this look, and didn't even do a post! What a bad blogger I am! Today I have so much to write about, and will be posting all day about Marc Jacobs, the Erin Featherston show, and much more! Stay tuned! XO O

My Fav Sartorialist Look so far

So, it is no secret that I would rather have Mr. Schuman photograph me than any paparazzi. I would be more flattered than any spread in a glossy magazine. His eye is impeccable and I only hope I have the good fortune (and hopefully a good ensemble) to catch his eye one day in NY or another city in the world! I'm bookmarking this look for a future copy cat look this winter! Love the little boho ring on her finger with the wide leg pants!

Anna Wintour comments on the Economy

Ah, the Mistress of the Fashion Industry comments on Value fashion. I'm sure somewhere she is seething inside, but I'm always curious to hear her take on the current state of the Fashion Industry, obviously she has lasted quite a long stint. This article is a fab little snippet of what her current state of the union is..she talks about the Obama's, value, and what is to come of these crazy times, in her industry of course. image: Reuters

Jason Wu- Impresses

I'll be honest, I wasn't thrilled with Mrs. Obama's Inaugural dress. It was lovely, appropriate, and she rocked it. I just wasn't blown away..I was expecting fireworks, I know, however Jason Wu's new collection is a perfect blend of appropriate silhouettes and billowy frocks. I most enjoyed these photos, especially this lower left one. I probably couldn't get away with it, since strapless isn't really for me, but I would try! xo O images WWD

The New Cocktail

This is my favorite Monique Lhuiller look of the rtw collection. The element of black, and grunge with this beautiful white dress is perfection. I will take two please...I'm going to attempt to recreate this look with a dress I have that is an old Calvin Klein that I have always saved despite never wearing, for lack of originality with how to wear it. Of course a stylish French designer gives me inspiration for the dress. Merci!

Jenni Kayne can rely on her Mum and Pop

I really couldn't be more obsessed with this collection. How do you go wrong here? I find it incredibly chic that she showed her collection at her parents house on Park Avenue. What a complete hipster move, and I love it. These pieces are enviable, wearable, and I adore her model choice. This intimate affair looks like it was just what was needed for these pieces. Bravo Jenni!

And were off...

Here it is, I believe the first Anna Wintour photo of Fashion week, if it isn't than it was my first glimpse. I'm kind of going to savor the moment of seeing her possibly for the last time. I doubt she let cameras into her office to make the September issue if her imminent departure wasn't near. Here she is at the amfar event to kick off Fashion Week! I'm so excited to see what comes down those runways!! I'm already obsessed with the Jenni Kayne show...more on that in just a bit. Image wireimage

A Model's Diet before NY Fashion Week

It is always funny when you think about how those models are so so thin, and still manage to have energy to fly around, have jet lag, stay up late etc. I can't even force myself to eat less when I have had one long day, let alone several in a row. I could never be a model, my will power is just not that good. She details the week before diet that she keeps to stay thin and fit into sample size (0)2. I only wish in Las Vegas there was a place to get a healthy veggie and tofu bowl for lunch Downtown! I'm going to have to adopt this for my lunch on my own until some genius decides to do a healthy concept here. Who knows if this is complete BS and she is living on the "C" diet as my boyfriend so eloquently said, "coffee, cigarettes, and coke". Image Melissa Ham, NY mag

New Casino Downtown

This is City Girl LV, so here is one interesting piece of news for Downtown...Forest City has submitted to build the first casino Downtown in 30 years in the Union Park area that is currently being developed. This is an interesting article that talks a little about it. Of course in a "I'll scratch your back if you build us a new city hall" move, it will sure be interesting what comes of this.

As if anyone hates Gwyneth Paltrow....

Dear Ms. Paltrow,
Thank you for a. being fabulous, b. your new website and c. showing people that you can be a well educated person, have a family, struggle with a little extra weight, make great films, go on a road trip with Mario, Speak more than one language, and still have time to put together an outift now and then. People are crazy, and simply don't know how to channel their boredom and general lack of fulfillment in life. I only hope that one day, I can have all these atributes of my personality. xo Olivia

Claire Daines looking perfect again

I'll be honest and say that I was not impressed with the SAG awards...I don't know why, maybe everyone is saving up for the Oscars?? However, Claire Danes is having a good dress couple of weeks with her choices. This red number was one of my fav's for the SAG, and the Navy for a charity event after was simple but perfect for her. There are not many days in which dreaming of being famous is part of what I think about. However, when parties like this come about I wish I was a. in paris, and b. famous enough to get an invite. Las Vegas Movies

This film has been the last in a long line of holiday, and Oscar season films that have been on the agenda to see for ages. Finally the film debuts, and is happily played to audiences awaiting the reuniting of Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, which was not as interesting as a new Sam Mendes film to this movie goer. However, even though Las Vegas is the home of more than two million people, this valley does not EVER get the good films in the "select city" release, and to add insult to injury, all the potentially good films open in one theater in the Valley. So after one attempt at screening the movie, where the line was 45 minutes to purchase a ticket (an attempt, not sucessfully completed) another attempt was made by going to one of the three theatres that were within a 20 minute drive from Downtown. This is not surprising considering the top movie rentals from Netflix for Las Vegas are things like "Three Days to Vegas", "Deal", " The Girl Next Door", and "School for Scoundrels". There is of course room for whimsy in renting videos, but the list for Las Vegas is obviously a bit off tilt. What is going on here people! I just wish that I didn't feel like I live in Montana sometimes, where it's possible to have an independant theatre, and cinemas that include not only horror movies, and slap stick comedy. image: rotten tomatoes
