A general Francophile Post

There are not many days in which dreaming of being famous is part of what I think about. However, when parties like this come about I wish I was a. in paris, and b. famous enough to get an invite. What a fun night! It is always nice to see such beauties in their party best arriving at what looks to be an incredible French night! Enjoy!

Las Vegas Movies

This film has been the last in a long line of holiday, and Oscar season films that have been on the agenda to see for ages. Finally the film debuts, and is happily played to audiences awaiting the reuniting of Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, which was not as interesting as a new Sam Mendes film to this movie goer. However, even though Las Vegas is the home of more than two million people, this valley does not EVER get the good films in the "select city" release, and to add insult to injury, all the potentially good films open in one theater in the Valley. So after one attempt at screening the movie, where the line was 45 minutes to purchase a ticket (an attempt, not sucessfully completed) another attempt was made by going to one of the three theatres that were within a 20 minute drive from Downtown. This is not surprising considering the top movie rentals from Netflix for Las Vegas are things like "Three Days to Vegas", "Deal", " The Girl Next Door", and "School for Scoundrels". There is of course room for whimsy in renting videos, but the list for Las Vegas is obviously a bit off tilt. What is going on here people! I just wish that I didn't feel like I live in Montana sometimes, where it's possible to have an independant theatre, and cinemas that include not only horror movies, and slap stick comedy. image: rotten tomatoes

Yes Please

The couture collections have begun, and although there are many fancy dresses that I would love to have to shoot some fab editorial in a dirty ally or in the middle of the street, I would like 3 of these please, only with a nude shoe, and glasses. Image style.com

SAG roundup

I'm sorry but who let this girl get out of her limo in this dress. I'm hoping that her stylist is someone who simply spilled red wine on the dress she was supposed to wear just before she left the house. I'm usually keen on silvery dresses, and I'm also in favor of a little glitz for these award show events, however this is ridiculous. This frock MIGHT have looked good on a very thin young actress, if it was cropped at the knee, for the teen choice awards with different hair and accessories, but oh my goodness...

Favorite Blog of the week

Yes, I admit that I am one of the 180,000 people that visit Bryan Boy daily. No matter that he has his own Wikipedia site, and that he has a Marc Jacobs bag named after him. These things in which I would normally be VERY green over, I'm not. I get to simply enjoy the site daily! There is no way that he needs my endorsement, but in any case, I thank and recommend Bryan Boy for those times when you have already read Perez, and need something else for a 15 minute distraction.

Monday...

I will get to the full run down of the SAG awards and parties later, but this little number on Katie Holmes stood out, what a color, and what a great cut. The nude shoe makes this a fun look. Stay tuned for a surprisingly more fun awards show than the golden globes was!

Ab Fab to come to the US

AB FAB IS COMING!!!! Fox has green lit a pilot for an American version of this British show. Jennifer Saunders is on board so we should look forward to a great adaptation of this brilliant show. I'm really not sure what green lighting is, or if that means that they will make one show and cancel it after they don't have 30 million people watching the first night like they always do, but this thrills me that there is a chance. I will put a bottle of Champagne on ice...image TVsquad.com

What the F*#% is up with Clint Eastwood

I love Clint Eastwood, I always have. If I were a young actress, I would sit in his office lobby until he met with me, even if it took years. However, this movie was awful!!!! I wanted to enjoy it so much, and I understand that he used first time actors, and a first time script writer, but maybe that's why it wasn't great. Maybe that Clint Eastwood flavor was taken out of it. The acting was very amateur, (obviously) the script was pretty elementary, and I felt like it was a paint by numbers sort of film. Maybe his next one will be more Clint Eastwood, and less newbies. Looking forward to Revolutionary Road this weekend!

Can I have one of each please?

Normally I would not fall in love with a complete line like this, but I will attempt to put together this entire line from the Fall09 Burberry collection from my own closet. Possibly the grey suit is a must have. The shoulders and slim fit of the pants might just possibly be the most perfect suit of the season. I'm sure the doom and gloom has translated into grey, black, and tan for many collections, and I will take it as a positive, as these are my favorite colors to wear! images style.com

Bad Las Vegas Fashion

This is what I'm talking about people. What on earth is this? I look at the style section of the Review Journal and this is the kind of stuff that is being written about. In a town of over 2 million people, the only style things to report on is the new opening of the Rock and Republic store, or this horrid outfit at some other shop?? I ask, is it that there isn't anything else to write about? Is it that there is no style in this city? What is going on here? Clearly everyone doesn't wear rock and republic, and weird bedazzled leather jackets like this...image lasvegasreviewjournal.com

Milan Fashion Week and The Sartorialist

This could be a favorite blog post, but it really is specific to Milan and Italy in general. I always look forward to some of the European shows because I know the Sartorialist will be there to capture people walking in and amongst the streets! This left pic I will save forever! What a gem of a mother daughter walking in the Milan streets! The women of Milan have such great style, although LLG's post about it is not only hilarious, but makes the allure of actually attending much less appealing. I will sit at my computer and let the pro's do it for me! Thank you!

Fantasy Wardrobe

I think it goes without saying that I want each piece that Alexander McQueen makes, but this dress particularity. I can only image walking into a show, or event in Las Vegas of all places wearing this ensemble (bowler hat, head scarf, gloves and all). I'm sure it would be met with complete abashment, confusion, and distain, but I would be the happiest girl in the room notwithstanding. image wwd.com

Russian Vogue Cover

I don't really care that people hate Victoria. The girl is amazing. If only I could drink only peppermint tea on a 12 hour flight (which has been reported). She has three little boys, is always dressed to the nines, travels around the world wearing outfits that I could probably only handle for like 13 minutes before complaining. I love this photo, I would like a graphic designer to follow me around with photo shop so my skin looked this amazing at all times. image vouge.ru

Fashion Week Thoughts Part One

Everyone is so doom and gloom these days, even the fashonistas. This isn't something new, there have been rumblings for months about canceled post parties, designers deciding to not show at fashion week, scaling back etc. There is an intreseting article about all of this here...http://www.thecommentfactory.com/the-fashion-industry-sinks-in-the-global-economic-downturn-1474

However what if we just adjust our perception and attitude about all of this briefly, and just for a suspended moment, so that we can think about what it could mean.

Maybe.....the really great designers that have amazing collections will figure out ways of showing their wares in a unique space, at a far less cost. This could result in some interesting venues, and some creative spaces.
Maybe.....some of the designers that maybe are popular for other reasons than having really great innovative fashion won't be able to slip through the cracks. The best example I can use is the whole Circut City out of business situation. Is Circut City really that great? In Las Vegas, the capital of every chain outlet being right next to each other, again and again in every part of the valley, is a bit redundant. Circut City is clearly not as good as Best Buy. Best buy for whatever reason has offered its customers a big cheap place to buy electronics for the cheapest price, and the most main stream items that are available. CLEARLY this business plan works for them. Americans want to do their own research about what digital camera they want to purchase and then drive their big cars to go pick it up for the lowest price. If you walk into Circut City, it isn't as bright, there is commission sales people who are clearly trying to sell you what ever item is on their sell list.
Their product might be better to some, but their execution doesn't work with consumer electronics in America. So good riddence, Circut City, good riddence. Now is the time where the strong will survive, and maybe designers that have spent huge amounts of advertizing and bought publicity will not be able to survive when people are being discressionary with their income and not flagrent with it.
Maybe...some young designers will get some recognition for being small, innovative, creative, and that make good clothes that people want to wear. It might be doom and gloom for some people and companies, but for others, it just might be their time to hold on and shine.

Polyvore lust or distain

And if I let myself go, I'm the only one to blame..
And if I let myself go, I'm the only one to blame.. by ஜಌ[CmOk_va]ಌஜ

This website might make me loose my mind. It may be that I will be either incredibly entertained or just make me waste day after day putting together things that I will never wear or make me want to go to the shops and spend frivolously. It could be the sanity that one needs when going to the shops is not an option, and you still want to play around with things. image polyvore.com

A general Francophile Post

Carla Bruni is suing the makers of this bag for using her nude picture for this shopper. As someone who generally adores her (even though I should have some level of jealousy, for being an incredibly beautiful model who happens to marry the Pres of France...) I'm a bit confused as to why. She said previous that she and Mr. Sarkozy would look at the photo's on the internet of her being nude, and pick out the ones they loved most. I thought the French were much more relaxed about these sorts of things. She should have simply brookered a deal to make said bags, and made a fortune on them! Instead she is very upset, even though she has a completly rockin body (yes, I said rockin) and it doesn't seem that you can see very much that you couldn't see by doing a google image search. I'm still in love with the Vanity Affair spread that was done, and was more excited to see a little news about the first lady of France even if it is a little nasty!

Am I missing something...

I'm wondering how on earth I can be a seemingly normal girl, full of ambition, and self control and yet I can't seem to loose the ten pounds that I have put on in the last two years. Is there some trick that I'm not aware of? As a girl of an age that should be perfect for keeping trim and fit, I'm grappling with the notion that I'm out of the loop as to how to have the self control to not indulge in one more cookie, or one more helping of Chicken Panang. I'm I missing something? Britney Spears seems like she is someone who doesn't have much control, her father has control over her finances, and judges make all sorts of decisions as to what she can do with her children, on and on. This post isn't a Britney Spears post but DAMN! She is looking pretty fit if nothing else. How is this done? Is it just that she has enough money to have someone else be in control of her food and excerise regimin? When it is all said and done, I must be minus the gene that one must have to put the fork down, and get up on the treadmill. If Britney Spears can do this then surely, I can somehow muster a bit of restraint, and only eat the one serving of Thai, rather than two...More on these adventures soon...

Ok, enough is enough- When do we get Obama

ItalicIs it the intent of the outgoing President to make Americans unable to travel abroad??? As Mr. Bush's last outgoing statements, he is raising the import tax on Roquefort cheese made in the south of France to %300. It isn't because he would prefer to eat American cheese, it is because the French have banned any imported beef treated with bleach and hormones from the US. Shouldn't we try to ban these for ourselves!? Clearly, they don't want our beef products and would prefer to eat meat that isn't treated horribly and is treated with all sorts of chemicals. Way to go Mr. President, I'm glad that keeping yummy cheese out of the hands of Americans is your top priority in your last days. Ridiculous!

Winter Inspiration

In spite of the fact that it feels like 80 degree's in Las Vegas, I'm still wishing that it was a little more cold, so that I could attempt something like this, even though I'm sure I would butcher it. Never-the-less, what a perfect ensemble to run errands, have a bite to eat and pick up the kids in. This is the only way in which some sort of athletic style boot and shorts works. Kudos to Ms. Patrow for her inspiration for today. Image Via thefashionspot.com

Why is it 80 degree's in January?

This is all I'm asking for, a lovely snowy day where I can dress up in a cute layered outfit, go home, make dinner and watch movies with my boyfriend. Is this too much to ask!? What a doofus I am for rejecting the Balenciaga Motorcycle when I had the chance to snag one. I was simply too afraid of getting the "it" bag and it being dated before I could whip it out of the fresh Barney's box. I go and visit them at Barney's sometimes and wish I had magical powers to go back in time and choose that one over my black leather Gucci, that isn't too much to ask right?
P.S. I will do a whole story on Style and the City soon, what a gem!!

Bad Las Vegas Fashion

Listen girls, this is NOT an attempt at making fun, or embarrassing anyone. I'm simply wondering where this "fashion" is coming from. Why on earth do we as a city, and as a group of young people condone this sort of behavior for our young women. I ask, has anyone in Las Vegas picked up a fashion magazine in the last five years? Well, I doubt that even five years ago, there was anything resembling what is being worn out on the town today. But back to the point....I really encourage our young women who come from all over, to think about what they are putting on before going out. Don't we all have a little responsibility to ourselves to have a specific point of view and to not simply put whatever BEBE dress is on the manequin on? I simply would like to see a variety in what girls are putting on. Surely each and every girl that goes out doesn't really all love the tight, jewel colored dress that shows lots of skin, with false nails, hair, breasts, hair color, etc. I'm putting a call out to all these lovely ladies, to ask themselves the next time they are going out with girls, what image do I really want to project? What is flattering on my body? I'm hoping that we can create a city of individuals and not this second rate version of LA style, with bedazzled shirts and tight dresses, and the Vegas highlight job (This is to you also boys, but that is really a whole issue in itself).

Guerilla Knitting

It seems as though I'm the only one that didn't know this was going on...people all over the world are knitting in place of using spray paint, or other more permanent types of Graf art. Now, I'm not suggesting that all Graf is bad, and I don't think that many types of art that we are all comfortable with would exist today if it wasn't for these people. That said, I'm inspired to a. learn to knit, and b. start randomly doing this in Las Vegas. This is the old lady coming out in me I guess. I know this because yesterday I saw a station wagon Volvo, and thought it was cute, and practical, and safe and wouldn't mind driving one....I know, pretty crazy. Anyway, read all about these cute girls at smh.com.au (where I found some of these images, as well as some flikr accounts that have TONS of pics of Guerilla Knitting!) Enjoy!

MK Casual

If only I could roll out of bed in the morning, throw on six items, ten pieces of jewelry, and always look perfectly disheveled, and bohemian, I would be a happy girl. I know people are always destroying these girls because they look ragged, but honestly they do the downtown thing with just enough panache as anyone. Thank goodness they go get coffee as much as they do, or we would never see what they are wearing!

Katie's New Miu Miu Ad

Ok, I know that people are very weird about Katie Holmes, but for god's sakes people, she was on Dawson's creek on the WB, and she married Tom Cruise. We need to just get over that, just enjoy her cute style that comes with having every piece of available merchindise at her disposal. She does a pretty good job of choosing fun and cute things. I always love the Miu Miu ads, and this new one is no exception. Can we all get over the fact that she is Tom's wife and not hate her so much for having cute hair, and great style??

I knew 2009 was going to be good!

Much to my surprise, LLG resumed blogging earlier a few days ago. This makes me very excited, and a good sign that everything is going to be ok. It sounds funny, and a bit stalker-ish, but her posts always make me laugh, and I'm thrilled that I will be able to procrastinate other work for an extra 5 minutes a day to read her blog. What a great year this is going to be!

Golden Globes Mediocrity

As I was in LA yesterday, attempting to get through traffic on an award night, as I have never experienced before, I wondered even more than I normally do, what everyone was wearing inside their black limos lining the street, awaiting the red carpet. Since I was on an official art quest that day, on my way to the Hammer. I wasn’t sure about this look from Drew Barrymore, but I’m thinking it may be the most beautiful I have seen her! This 1950’s look is risky, and gorgeous! Anne Hathaway looked perfectly pale, and lovely int his Navy Armani, with Red lips and nails to match! Amy Adams’ dress Oscar de la Renta looked perfectly sparkling, and with natural hair and minimal jewels, it was quite lovely. Unfortunately, I will have to wait for the Oscars, to see something completely jaw dropping, as I was not thrilled with the season opener this year! Fingers crossed! xo

Fantasy Wardrobe

I'm putting together in my head, and now in actual photo arrangement pieces that I could have in my perfect closet. I'm sure that my American apparel leggings, and one of many black blazers I have would be a nice alternative to this look, but the Mcqueen one would be nice wouldn't it?
Going through last season's shows, this McQeen show is by far one of my Favorite complete collection, and I guess that says a lot about me, I like black and whatever the "New" black is, will never actually be black! Next I'm going to search for my Fantasy Golden Globes Dress!
