Off to Europe! What to Wear!?

I'm thrilled to announce that I will be going to Europe in a very short time...I'm headed to Spain with my beau, and very thrilled about it! My first thoughts are what kinds of things will I wear!? The average high in May in Barcelona is 68 degrees, so I'm going to need plenty of great layering pieces that can work all day and into the evening, when it get's a little chillier! Shoes are really my only really horrible dilemma when thinking about packing for Europe. What is a great shoe that can walk well, and does not scream, "I'M ON VACATION AND NEED COMFORTABLE SHOES TO WALK AROUND ALL DAY!" I had a hilarious conversation with friends over cocktails about how Americans put their "Vacation Gear" together. I would like to be somewhat comfortable, but by saying that, I really just mean, there are not razor blades shooting up my legs because of the intense pain of shoes.

The wardrobe part will just be fun, and I will just bring my favorite pieces, and get to wear great scarfs, and fun things! Any Links or Ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Blog of the Week

I admit it, I adore the Olsens. There is something so wrong about that, but I really just wish that I could rummage through their closets and pick out all the fab jewelry and knitwear they own (and a few pairs of shoes, let's be honest). I really couldn't care less about their personal lives, if they simply would snap a photo of what they were wearing that day, the paps could leave them alone, and let them date whom ever they like with no interference. A General Francophile Post: An American in Paris

It was lovely to see President and Mrs. Obama meeting the President and first Lady of France. I'm always thrilled to post anything about Miss Bruni, and she is looking as beautiful as ever. I can only imagine what they are eating for dinner. I count the days until I return to Paris again....

Spring Wardrobe

Each year I always go through the same fight with myself, what is the spring, aka, really flippin hot in April through October in the desert. How on earth does one look chic, simple, when it is over 100 degrees. I have lived in Las Vegas for 10 years and I still don't have it down. I can't really do the casual flip flops (I really hate them), denim bottom and tank top uniform that many ladies, who I'm afraid are having the same problem as me, they just don't know it.

Is this possible to look pulled together, without showing too much skin, and still having some sort of personal style, without falling into the "Bad Las Vegas Fashion" that I still shake my head at!

Bad Las Vegas Fashion- March Madness

I feel like Cher in Clueless, but please people, what is it with the khaki cargo shorts. Today my BF and I went for a nice lunch and a walk. We live Downtown, so we soon found that we were in the midst of March Madness extravaganza. I decided to play a game of how many people can we count wearing Khaki cargo shorts while walking home. We counted 82 pairs. 82 pairs!!! Why do men think that they look stylish wearing this get up. You look like a complete wanker, and might as well be walking around in plaid pajama pants and a white tank top. Step away from the cargo shorts circa 1992 and put something else on. There are many varied outfits that one could throw on and be just as comfortable, with a hit of chic. I promise you if you have a ceremonial burning of this horrid trend that has never gone away, then your dates and contact with women will increase by 20% immediately.

General Francophile Posting

I'm thrilled to see the news that Audrey Tautou is doing the next installation of Chanel no. 5 advert. Nicole Kidman's commercial was lovely, but this should be perfect. (insert, beautiful French woman, Paris, and Chanel, is that heaven or what!?)

Finally!

This may be Citygirl's first gardening post, and I only wish that I could get myself to the nursery to plant a veg garden, but living in the desert, does have some drawbacks other than horribly dry skin, and always being thirsty. Nothing really grows here, which I'm sure it could be done, and there are people right now that have lovely gardens here, I just simply haven't attempted anything that elaborate. I can kill a common house plant in record time. I read Alice Waters' plea to the White House when Obama was elected, for a sustainable garden. These photos today of a breaking ground of a veg garden, is just the kind of thing that keeps me loving the new first family, even if there have been some interesting decisions made in the first 70 days or so. Bravo first family!! I can't wait to see the results!

Alexander McQueen, Zoolander, and possible genius of Will Farrell

I have a lot to say about this current "Ready To Wear" collection by the fantastic Alexander McQueen. I find it hilarious that this is the collection that he chose to show as ready to wear. How funny is that?? Second, I believe this collection was first shown on the Will Ferrell runway as the Derilique collection. I'm not sure if he is commenting on where we are, or where we will be very shortly.
I don't want this to be a negative review of the show at all, it was amazing, a beautiful show, and I would seriously wear each and every piece, even if it meant that I would look like a tart. The recycling, broken glass thing was quite amazing, and just like a good film, is making me have all sorts of other thoughts about life, and fashion, which is sort of what one should do after seeing such a show.
Bravo Lee, bravo.

Barbie+Colette=cool

I wasn't too keen on all this Barbie 50th anniversary business, until I saw these windows for Colette. I'm not sure why. I like Barbie, had many of them as a girl, she is a great girl etc. I just simply wasn't into the whole anniversary as this massive global ad campaign. Next they will be selling Barbie perfume, and cosmetics for women, and that would put me over the edge. However, this window display for Colette is super cool, and I only wish I was in Paris to see it.

Dolce in Milan

I don't know if I'm needing some opulence now in the midst of all the doom and gloom, but this collection looked so fantastic and fun, it's the first time in a long time, I have wanted to put on red lipstick and pull my hair back! This whole collection doesn't look exactly like this, but I love the print tucked into a really feminine look, somehow even though I wouldn't wear a t-shirt with anyone's face on it, this seems perfectly appropriate.

Missoni Heaven

I know I'm missing winter now. All I want to do is put on layers and layers of scarves and hats and jackets and head out for coffee with friends, but alas, it is now 75 degrees in Las Vegas and probably heading to the disastrous 100's soon enough..I think I'm going to look into traveling TO the cold for winter from now on. I'm still in my normal winter wear of skinny trousers and blouse, however would love all these dreamy colors and layers for winter image wwd.com

Just another post about how amazing Ms. Paltrow is, she always manages to look great, and even though I'm sure there are people who are criticizing her website, and other ventures, I was exceedingly entertained this week with her Paris tour, I can't wait to go spend some time at little tea shops that she recommends! P.S. this dress makes me want to run to the gym and stay there until I can fit into my skinny jeans...thanks a lot Tracy Anderson! haha

Running With Heels- and horrible interns

As much as I will probably watch future episodes of this show to see what Ms. Garcia is wearing due to her fabulous Latin style and grace that was so exemplified in her little podcast for Elle last year, I cannot handle these interns. I would think that they could come up with girls with more intellect that wanted to work for Marie Claire. Maybe there is tricky editing, and they are making these girls look incompetent when they are not, but I highly doubt it. I'm really not in the business of being nasty or mean spirited, I'm sure an internship at a great magazine is a coveted position, and I guess I should have gone straight from college to apply for an internship there, maybe I stood a chance!Time will tell... Sunday night fun

Ms. Cruz's vintage white gown may have been one of the highlights of the evening, which was made even better when she won the statue for Vicky Christina Barcelona. This antique dress was so lovely. I'm sure some fashion police will give her some trouble for the fit of the bodice, but I think she looked lovely!! xo O wwd.com
